Don't Force It!

My job as a photographer is to capture what is there, not force into existance what's not.   If a child doesn't want to do something, then who am I to make them?  It's not their personality, it's not something they would normally do, and most importantly, it's not them, where they are, in life at that very moment...the moment I am there to capture.

For example, the little 2 year old prince in the picture above wanted above all else to be mommy's baby.  It made him upset to see his newborn sister butting in on his life and sharing his mommy.  He wanted not to sit next to his new sister, but to snuggle with his mommy.  He won't always be like that...one day he'll be helping her learn her ABC's, the next he'll bugging his sister into insanity, the next he'll be warding off all of her potential boyfriends with tough 'big brother' talk, and before we know it...they'll be grown---but today, this is who he is, this is how he is, and as he gets older, this short little phase will be missed...but here it is, this moment, fleeting and beautiful in it's own way, frozen in a photograph for all of time.

So don't be discouraged when things don't go as you've planned, and in fact, when they don't, we end up with the most beautiful, true-to-life captures of all...
