Every New Day

Before we had Zech, each day was pretty similar to the last.  Please, Please don't get me wrong--I loved every single day with just Kyle and me...never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would find a man like Kyle to share my life with--and every day I love him more and more, and I'm thankful for all he does and sacrifices for me, and for our son.  But when I say every day was similar, I mean that each day I woke up as the same person, as did Kyle, and we went about our lives the same way each morning, and I took comfort in knowing that when we came home at night, I could look forward to the man I married, as I married him.  While we were childless we had an awesome time going to big cities, cookouts, museums, zoos, movies (usually kid movies, like Disney's Up, but sometimes grown-up movies too).  When I became pregnant, I would cry sometimes for those days because I thought they would be gone forever, and I was afraid that life would become monotonous, with no more spontaneity.

After Zechariah was born, I found out I couldn't have been more wrong!  After my mind had cleared after all the weeks of sleep deprivation (about 6 weeks or so) I was thrilled to discover that my once tiny, fragile little human that rarely did anything other than poop, sleep or cry was  learning something new each day.  Once he hit 2 months, he would literally do something new every single day--a new facial expression, a new sound, a smile, a laugh, a turn of his head, or noticing something that he never noticed before.  To most people, all these little things may sound tiny and insignificant...but everyone who has ever been a mother knows that each of these milestones is a huge leap from that tiny, helpless little person you brought home from the hospital;a little stranger of whom you knew nothing about...of whom you were challenged to love, raise, and care for for the rest of your life (and what a scary thought that was...and still is).

Seeing these changes take place rapidly in my son has taught me that being a mommy will be anything but monotonous!  For Zechariah, everyday is an adventure--the things that I take for granted like going to the store, or cooking dinner, he watches with such fascination that I can't help but be sucked in by his excitement.  All of the exciting times with Kyle  that I worried would be gone forever, I cannot wait for us to re-do with Zechariah--how much more exciting will they be through the eyes of a child--unhindered by adult worry and cynicism! I think that children see every little thing as God intended it to be...a miracle to be marveled at!

Zechi's newest interest is watching me eat...he looks at the approaching food with a furrowed brow, then squeals with delight as it disappears magically into Mommy's mouth! In two short months, he'll be tasting his first 'big-boy' foods--another adventure I can't wait to experience and share!!!  For now I am content to sit, working at the computer with a cup of chai tea while my son, my little sidekick and greatest source of entertainment plays with his toys, chattering away on the floor....

VERSE OF THE DAY   "I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it" Matt 18:3
