"Time needs to slow down"
How many times have you said this as a parent? The days are long but the years fly by. I get it. First you are juggling diaper bags and naptimes and feeding schedules, then sippy cups and daycare and tantrums, then sports and extracurricular schedules...but before you know it, the endless to-do list turns into a distraction of the very moments you don't want to miss. Before you know it, you have thousands of pictures on your phone, but that's the only place they live, your most precious memories are right next to screenshots, blurry out-takes and artsy cappuccinos.
Please, let me help.
What is keeping you from scheduling a session with the intention of true forever memories on your wall or in an album?
* You don't know the best time to schedule?

Happy Clients
Working with SheRae was amazing. Not only is she a professional and amazing photographer but she is so personable. Her patience with our newborn and crazy toddler boys was what made the photo shoot so smooth and easy. The best part, when she delivered our gorgeous prints!

Our family absolutely loves SheRae! She is a tremendously gifted photographer. She has been photographing our family for years and I’m always
amazed at how many perfect shots she can get with my rambunctious kiddos.

I've had the privilege of working with SheRae professionally and WOW! She takes great detail in editing our birth photos for us and is incredible with her newborn/children's photography. What a blessing she has been for to our business and our local families!

I cannot begin to give enough praise to SL Hunter Photography. We had the privilege of having both newborn and family photographs, and they turned out far better than I could have imagined. She took the time to consult with us prior to our session and was able to incorporate who we are as a family into our portraits. I was amazed at her ability to calm our baby and capture the sweetest moments of his life. I am pretty sure she is a “baby whisperer” and even stole a few of her techniques for later use! She was patient, flexible, and immediately put us at ease with her calming spirit. As she revealed the final shots, I had tears running down my cheeks. I was amazed at the final product, which told the story of our family and captured the true personality of each of my children. We plan to have her photograph our family for many years to come and she gets our highest recommendation.

How it Works
1
Let's Talk
It all starts with a quick phone call. Once we know that we are the right fit for one another, we work together over the next weeks to create not only your dream session, but the artwork that will become a permanent fixture to the personality of your home. I want to create a tailored experience for each and every one of my clients from initial call to delivery of the final products.
The Session
I am an on location photographer. I come to you and I use both strobes and natural light in my sessions. This alone sets me apart from almost every other photographer in Winchester and the surrounding areas. I also have over 13 years of experience working with people (particularly the little ones) and I am an expert at making everyone look and feel their very best during their session. You can ask any of my clients, my sessions are stress free, fun, and I ALWAYS get 'the shot'.

Ordering Consultation
In our digital culture it can be daunting to choose an image or several images from the 50+ final images from your session to print or to put into an album. I get it. It is easy to get stuck in 'analysis paralysis' but the devastating end result is that nothing ever gets printed. To me, this is such a tragedy that I spent over a year creating, tweaking, testing and curating a entirely customizable system for ordering prints, albums and wall art. I do not sell a single item that I do not have in my own home. Final products include a mixture of digital and physical artwork, because one day your great, great grandkids will come across 4x6 prints, not your hard drive, your cloud space, or your Iphone.
Why do Portraits Matter?
Modern families spend their limited time getting everyone together, they stress over hair and clothes and whether or not the baby will nap on the day of the session, then they spend their hard earned money to hire a photographer to create beautiful images that will never make it past their phone or computer...or a Christmas card if they are lucky.
I am fully committed to making sure that the images that are captured during our session are a mix of posed, candid and artistic captures that can be admired and celebrated daily in your home the way that timeless and priceless art is celebrated in a gallery. I want these portraits on your walls for generations. I want your kids to see themselves everyday as that tiny person you first fell in love with. I want you to see and remember your young love, your pets who have passed on, and your family at every stage. I want your artwork to become as much a fixture as your walls themselves.

Your next question might be about the investment, and I have you covered there, because we will talk briefly
about what your end goals are during our phone convo and with that you will have an idea of what you will want to invest. My session fee (I like to call it my Creation Fee) is very low because I charge only for the hourly rate of session itself. I pour all the rest of my time into editing and creating your end result, whether it be wall art, an album, or another timeless keepsake. All of my artwork is signed and printed by a professional laboratory that caters only to photographers, and all prints and products are archival and acid-free.

I am a scientist turned photographer. I studied Biology at James Madison University (Go Dukes) and Microbiology and Immunology at University of North Dakota. After we had our first baby, my life changed in a way that I never expected and I found myself raising a child with significant special needs. I heard my grandmother's voice in my head over and over asking me if I was 'still doing my art' I often think of how proud she must be to see that I listened to her and kept at it! I have always loved art, and I have always loved people, so photography was so natural for me. The fact that you let me into your world, if even just for a few hours, is priceless, and it blesses my very soul. It makes me want to spoil you with special treatment to make sure you get exactly what you want--and end result that will bring you joy not just the day I deliver your proofs, or the day that we look at your final gallery, but for your entire life and for generations to come. I am extremely passionate about printing images and you will see if you ever visit my home that I practice what I preach. I would not trade a single frozen memory on my walls or in an album for all the digital files in the world. I have lived in Winchester with my Husband and 1, then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 children, plus my firstborn, a ragdoll cat and my son's service dog Kobe.
I love my community and I am above all, an artist.
I have had the privilege of contracting and partnering with numerous businesses and organizations including but not limited to the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber, Valley Health, Winchester Medical Center, Old Town Winchester, Shenandoah Valley Apple Blossom Festival, Costco, Willows at Meadow Branch, AMC Theater, Winchester Public Schools, Winchester Day School, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, the Children’s Discovery Museum, Summit Christian Academy in Newport News, the Winchester Police Department, and two local magazine firms for a total of 15 issues.
