I AM A PLANNER. Execution is a little iffy, but I always have a plan A, B, C and D, that’s just me—I spend my days thinking about how my next big project is going to come together, what the entertainment and snacks are for our next playdate, and exactly when and where our family vacation will be—even if it is a year away. When we were ready to purchase a house I HAD A PLAN. I had a handwritten list of individuals who I knew and trusted who would be involved in this first time experience, and I was ready to start shopping spring 2015. My husband is a planner too, like me, but here is the problem: We are not COMMUNICATORS! Long story short, my husband found a house and set up a viewing in a town I’d only been to twice with an agent I had NEVER MET. This was our first house purchase—I was nervous and wary to work with someone I didn’t know after having had an awful experience with an agent 2 ½ years ago when we moved to Winchester…and now were looking to BUY a house through a stranger??
Let me pause here: GOD’S plan is not always our plan, and specifically, it’s almost NEVER my plan.
So we met with the Dan Copeland on a freezing cold rainy day, because he worked with our schedule and drove all the way to Strasburg in the evening to let us in—and what do you know, we LOVED the house! We met with the Janice several times after that and we absolutely loved her! We were completely vulnerable as first time homebuyers, perfect candidates to be taken advantage of, but Janice answered all of our questions (some of them quite silly, no doubt) patiently and took our little family under her wing of experience. In the end we purchased a perfect starter house for nearly $50,000 less than we anticipated paying for a house in this market!! Not only that, but Jan and Dan brought with them a dream team of local contractors to inspect, fix, clean, and prepare our home. The day after we closed on our house at Old Towne Title, we packed up our belongings with the help of a few good friends (the kind of friends that help you move are pretty awesome). Almost 3 months later, here we are! Thank you everyone involved for being so wonderful, and thank you Dan&Jan for being the glue that held this entire process together from start to finish—I’m happy to count you among my friends--I thank God that he brought you into our lives!
So we’re homeowners---does that mean we’re grownups now?
